Victor Buono
Biography
Victor Buono was an American actor who also worked as a comic and, briefly, a recording artist, starting on local radio and television before joining San Diego's Globe Theater Players at 18. There he played Shakespearean parts and drew notice, and a Warner Bros. talent scout brought him to Hollywood. After early network and film work, Robert Aldrich cast him as Edwin Flagg in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), a role that earned Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. He became known for menacing and campy villains, including King Tut in Batman and Count Manzeppi in The Wild Wild West, while appearing in films such as Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), The Strangler (1964), The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965), and Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970). He released comedy albums, including Heavy!, and a book of comic poetry, It Could Be Verse. He died in 1982.

Early training
Victor Buono joined the Globe Theater Players in San Diego at age 18, and the director there had enough confidence in him to cast him in Volpone, A Midsummer Night's Dream and other Globe productions.
Big break
In the summer of 1959, a Warner Bros. talent scout spotted Buono playing Falstaff at the Globe, then brought him to Hollywood so he could take a screen test.
First role
Buono played Bongo Benny, a poet with a beard, in an episode of 77 Sunset Strip. That was his first appearance on network TV.
