Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Silencers (1966)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The Silencers earned a footnote in film history: it is notable as being the first film to have a post-credits scene.
- Allen had no interest when his partner Broccoli wanted to buy the rights to the James Bond novels; the partnership broke up and Broccoli enjoyed tremendous success on the Bond films instead. Allen then read a Matt Helm novel at an airport and optioned the film rights in twenty four hours with his own money.
- Dean Martin was not the original choice for the lead. “We had wanted Paul Newman or one of the good stars but no one would go up against Sean Connery,” said Allen; Mike Connors was strongly considered, but Columbia instead recommended him for a rival Bond imitation, Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die.
- The Helm series has been cited as one of the principal inspirations for the Austin Powers spy comedies of the 1990s and early 2000s.
