Simon Russell Beale
Biography
Simon Russell Beale is an English actor born in Penang in 1961 who began his career at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. He has won three Laurence Olivier Awards, for Volpone, Candide, and Uncle Vanya. On Broadway he was nominated for a Tony as George in Tom Stoppard's Jumpers, then won the Tony for Best Actor in a Play as Henry Lehman in The Lehman Trilogy. His first film part was in Sally Potter's Orlando (1992), and he became known for Persuasion (1995), The Deep Blue Sea (2011), My Week with Marilyn (2011), Benediction (2021), and The Outfit (2022). He played Lavrentiy Beria in The Death of Stalin (2017), winning a British Independent Film Award. On television he won two British Academy Television Awards, for A Dance to the Music of Time and for Henry IV, Part I and Part II, and appeared in Penny Dreadful and House of the Dragon.
