Plot summary
Siegfried Sassoon is an English poet, writer and soldier who serves in the First World War and becomes known as a war poet. He survives the horrors of the fighting and is decorated for his bravery, but once he returns from service he speaks out against the government's decision to continue the war. His poetry warns against the horrors of the war he fought in, and his anti-war position brings him to a psychiatric facility. Aristocrats admire him, and so do figures from London's literary and stage circles. During the 1920s he takes several male lovers as he struggles to accept his homosexuality.
