Plot summary
In 1956 Chicago, Leonard Burling, an English cutter, keeps a bespoke tailor shop in a district run by Irish mob boss Roy Boyle. Boyle's son Richie and his enforcer Francis use the shop to stash dirty money and messages, and the gangsters are Leonard's best customers. The shop's receptionist, Mable, is Richie's girlfriend. One night Francis arrives with Richie, wounded in the abdomen during a clash with the rival LaFontaine family. At gunpoint Leonard treats the wound and hides a briefcase holding a copy of an FBI recording of the crew's operations, provided by The Outfit, the syndicate Al Capone founded. Francis telephones Roy and leaves. Richie believes someone inside the organization tipped the LaFontaines and expects the recording to reveal who.
