Biography

Robert Hutton was an American actor, born Robert Bruce Winne in Kingston, New York, and raised in Ulster County. He attended Blair Academy and acted for two seasons at the Woodstock Playhouse before making his film debut under the name Robert Hutton in Destination Tokyo (1943). Resembling Jimmy Stewart, who had enlisted in the Army Air Forces, Hutton was cast during World War II in parts that would ordinarily have gone to Stewart, a practice called victory casting. After leaving Warner Brothers he continued in movies and television and also wrote and directed in England for several years, and he later returned to the United States. His final film was The New Roof (1975).
