Faye Emerson
Biography
Faye Emerson was an actress of film and stage who later worked as a television host. Born in Louisiana and raised in San Diego, she became interested in theater at San Diego State College and performed in California stock productions before Warner Bros. signed her in 1941. She moved from small parts to a starring role in Lady Gangster (1942), then appeared in Howard Hawks's Air Force (1943) and, in The Mask of Dimitrios (1944), was cast as the former lover of Zachary Scott. Other films included Nobody Lives Forever (1946) and Guilty Bystander (1950). After entering television in 1948, she acted in anthology series and began hosting The Faye Emerson Show in 1949. Her appearances on talk shows and game shows led to the nickname The First Lady of Television. She took Broadway roles in Parisienne (1950) and Back to Methuselah (1958). Emerson received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1960, retired in 1963, and died in 1983.
