Plot summary
Dr. Brockton, an anthropologist in Britain, learns that a lone male troglodyte still lives in the caves of the countryside. She believes the creature can be helped and perhaps domesticated, and she brings him up to the surface; the townspeople and the police back away in fear while she stuns him with a tranquilizer gun. At her laboratory he is named Trog, and she teaches him to play and to share. Surgeries and a hypnotic device give him a grasp of speech and let him see scenes from the age he came from. Sam Murdock, a local businessman, objects to a monster in the town.

- Producer Herman Cohen recalled that Joan Crawford's drinking was worse on Trog than on Berserk! and that she kept 100-proof vodka in a frosted glass labeled Pepsi-Cola; she arrived with four cases of it because it could not be bought in England.
- According to Turner Classic Movies, the "ratty ape-suit" that created Trog's caveman appearance was a leftover monkey outfit from Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
- Director Freddie Francis said Joan Crawford could not remember her lines during Trog and needed idiot cards "all over the place", and that it was the last thing she ever did.
- The stop-motion dinosaur sequence in Trog is stock footage made by special-effects artists Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen for the 1956 Warner Bros. nature documentary The Animal World.
