Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Cinderfella (1960)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • While filming his entrance to the ball in Cinderfella, Jerry Lewis ran up the stairs in under nine seconds, collapsed at the top and was taken to hospital, where he spent four days in an oxygen tent after suffering his second cardiac event; filming was delayed by two weeks.
  • Jerry Lewis found the movement of his pants distracting while rehearsing his entrance to the ball, so on the day of filming he had the wardrobe staff attach elastic stirrups to the hems that ran under his shoes to keep the trousers straight, calling it an old dancer's trick.
  • Paramount wanted Cinderfella released in summer, but Jerry Lewis wanted a Christmas release, so the studio demanded another film in its place; Lewis wrote, produced and directed The Bellboy in four weeks in February 1960 while performing at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
  • The exterior shots of the Cinderfella mansion are of Chartwell Mansion in Bel Air, a house that would later be used in The Beverly Hillbillies.
