Plot summary
Dr. Diabolo runs a fairground sideshow where visitors first see haunted house style attractions. He offers a genuinely scary experience to anyone who pays extra, and five of them follow him behind a curtain. There an effigy of Atropos holds shears that, he says, warn of foreseeable evil. Looking into the shears, each visitor sees the greed and violence that lies behind respectable façades. The group includes Colin Williams, a greedy playboy, Carla Hayes, a Hollywood starlet, Ronald Wyatt, a collector, and Gordon Roberts.
