A first
Blake was the first actor to say the expletive "bullsh*t" in a mainstream American motion picture, doing so in the 1967 film In Cold Blood.
A role that slipped away
In 1959, Blake passed on playing Little Joe Cartwright in NBC's Western series Bonanza. Michael Landon ended up in the part.
First role
Billed as Mickey Gubitosi, Blake launched his acting career playing Toto in the MGM movie Bridal Suite, a 1939 release that starred Annabella and Robert Young.
Early training
Blake joined Jeff Corey's acting class and worked on bettering his personal and professional life. He went on to become a seasoned Hollywood actor with dramatic roles in movies and on television.
Behind the camera
After Baretta ended, NBC proposed a series called Joe Dancer, with Blake as a hard-boiled private detective. He also got credit as its creator and executive producer. Three television films aired in 1981 and 1983, but the series never happened.
About the name
In 1942, Blake took the stage name Bobby Blake. That same year he landed his first lead in a feature film, playing the title part in MGM's Mokey.
