Plot summary
Crawford runs a newspaper and works with a pair of henchmen, Jackson and Case, behind a plan to charge the people of Bitter Springs a toll for a private road. Madison Pike, a wealthy man in the territory, is part of the arrangement. Red Ryder's aunt, a rancher known to everyone as The Duchess, believes she is Pike's only legal heir, and Red sets out to press that claim for her. Crawford and the others work to ruin her, and when her stagecoach runs loose, Red and his friend Little Beaver ride to stop it.
