Biography
Paz Vega is a Spanish actress who first drew wide attention on television, playing Laura in the sitcom 7 vidas, which became one of Spain's best-loved domestic comedies. She grew up in Seville, decided on acting at 16 after seeing a performance of Federico García Lorca's La casa de Bernarda Alba, and trained at the Andalusian Theater Center before moving to Madrid. Her early film work included Sex and Lucía (2001) and Solo mía (2001), and she reached American audiences in 2004 with Spanglish opposite Adam Sandler. She went on to appear in 10 Items or Less (2006), The Spirit (2008), and Rambo: Last Blood (2019), among other Spanish and English-language films, and in 2019 played Catalina Creel in the series Cradle of Wolves. She made her directing and writing debut with Rita (2024), which earned her a Goya Award nomination for Best New Director.

At 16, after she finished compulsory education, Vega was accepted at the Andalusian Theater Center stage school. She spent two years studying there, then another two years on journalism.
Behind the camera
In 2023, Vega announced in Cannes that filming had begun on Rita, her first work as director and writer. Set in 1980s Seville, the film screened at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival and brought her a Goya Award nomination for Best New Director.
