Plot summary
Benigno Martín and Marco Zuluaga sit near each other at a performance of Café Müller, and Benigno notices Marco crying. Marco works as a journalist and travel writer. He watches a television interview with Lydia González, a matador, and contacts her about an article. The two become friends and later lovers. Lydia is gored during a bullfight and falls into a coma, and Marco stays at her bedside in a clinic. There he becomes friends with Benigno, a nurse who cares for Alicia Roncero, a dance student in a coma. Benigno talks to Alicia as if she were awake, brings her mementos of dance and silent films, and tells Marco that women in comas understand men's troubles.
