Plot summary
Mark Walsh has spent his career in some of the world's most unforgiving places, and when his editor Amy proposes Saddam Hussein's campaign against the Kurds, he takes the assignment without hesitation. Elena, his wife, is far more worried. Mark travels with his friend and fellow photographer David, who is impatient to get back to Dublin and to his pregnant wife Diane. Mark returns home alone and injured, saying he was hurt in a river accident and that he was separated from David. David has not been heard from. Elena finds Mark unable to settle and unwilling to describe the trip, so she sends for her grandfather Joaquín Morales, a veteran psychoanalyst with military experience.
