Biography

Michael John Myers was born in 1963 in Scarborough, Ontario, to Alice E. (Hind), an officer supervisor, and Eric Myers, an insurance agent. His parents were both English, and had served in the Royal Air Force and British Army, respectively. Myers' television career really started in 1988, when he joined Saturday Night Live (1975), where he spent six seasons. He brought to life many memorable characters, such as Dieter and Wayne Cambell. His major movies include Wayne's World (1992), Wayne's World 2 (1993), So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993), the Austin Powers movies and Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat (2003).

  1. Behind the award

    In June 2007, Myers was given the MTV Generation Award. He became the second Canadian to receive it, after Jim Carrey, who had won it in 2006.

  2. Behind the camera

    Myers directed a documentary called Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, which came out in 2013. It was his first time directing, and it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

  3. Early training

    In 1988, Myers left the Second City in Toronto for Chicago. Once there, he taught, performed and trained at the Improv Olympic.

  4. Beyond film

    Myers plays in the band Ming Tea with Susanna Hoffs, a guitarist and vocalist for The Bangles, and musician Matthew Sweet. The group performed "BBC" and "Daddy Wasn't There" for the Austin Powers films.
