Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Amsterdam (2022)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The film's conspiracy plot is loosely based on the Business Plot, a 1933 scheme to oust President Franklin D. Roosevelt; Robert De Niro's General Gil Dillenbeck is based on General Smedley Butler, who testified about the conspiracy before the McCormack-Dickstein committee in 1934.
  • Michael B. Jordan dropped out before production began over scheduling conflicts, and John David Washington was cast as his replacement in October; Jennifer Lawrence and Jamie Foxx were reportedly considered for the roles.
  • On the last day of filming, the production kept going after its filming permit ended, and the police had to call "wrap" on the film, according to star Margot Robbie.
  • Amsterdam was set to shoot in Boston on a $50 million budget, but moved to Los Angeles when the cast did not want to travel to Boston during the pandemic; the move and COVID precautions inflated the budget to $80 million over 49 shooting days.
  • The film shot in Los Angeles while COVID deaths in California topped 2,500 a week, yet the production was completed without a single shutdown, using an air protection protocol implemented by Dr. Sabrina McCormick.
  • Much of the ensemble worked for scale, with Christian Bale taking less than his usual $5 million fee while Rami Malek earned a six-figure salary.
