Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Wayne's World (1992)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Penelope Spheeris and Mike Myers fell out on set: she told Entertainment Weekly he grew more difficult as filming went on, argued that nobody would laugh at the Bohemian Rhapsody scene, and once walked off because there was no margarine for his bagel. After they clashed over the final cut, Myers blocked her from directing Wayne's World 2.
  • The studio and producer Lorne Michaels wanted a Guns N' Roses track for the head-banging drive; Mike Myers insisted on Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and threatened to quit the production if he did not get it.
  • Queen's Freddie Mercury died a few months before the film opened. Brian May said Mercury watched the head-banging scene first, found it hilarious and approved the song, although Penelope Spheeris doubted that in 2022, arguing there was too little time for anyone to get a tape of the scene to him.
  • The film pushed Bohemian Rhapsody back to number two in the United States and revived Queen's following in the country.
  • Home video buyers heard a different riff in the "No Stairway to Heaven" gag: publishers judged the 100,000 dollars to license Led Zeppelin's opening notes too high and swapped them out, and the real notes only came back with the 4K Blu-ray in 2022.
  • Myers wanted Alice Cooper to perform I'm Eighteen or School's Out, but Cooper's manager Shep Gordon talked him into Feed My Frankenstein. That first meeting began a friendship, and Myers went on to direct the 2014 documentary Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.
  • With 121,697,323 dollars taken in North America, Wayne's World finished ninth for 1992 and remains the biggest earner of the eleven films drawn from Saturday Night Live sketches.
