Plot summary
Ron and Russell Mael are brothers from Los Angeles who grew up in the 1960s on popcorn matinees and pop records, and school talent shows nudged them toward a life in music as the duo Sparks. Across five decades the band has passed through many line-ups and recorded 25 studio albums. The documentary sets long conversations with the two brothers beside shorter ones with fellow musicians, producers who worked on their records, people who played in earlier versions of the group, and fans. Short animated passages, with comedians lending their voices to John Lennon and Ringo Starr, stage anecdotes told by musicians.
