Biography

Mary Gross is an American actress, comedian and voice actress known for a four-year run on Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s. Born in Chicago in 1953, she majored in English at Loyola University and spent five years as a secretary before answering an advertisement for a comedy workshop at the Reification Company, where she learned to write sketches and began performing in local productions. She joined the Second City troupe in 1979, and in 1981 was hired for Saturday Night Live, becoming co-anchor of its Weekend Update segment, then called SNL Newsbreak, and leaving with the rest of the cast in 1985. She is also known for playing Mrs. Quick, Sabrina's teacher, from 1997 to 2000 on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and her other television work includes Animaniacs, Boston Legal and Six Feet Under.
