Plot summary
Jack Moniker is hurt while working as a firefighter in Chicago, and his disability payout lets him retire to Saint Nicholas, a small Caribbean island where he buys a property. He becomes friends with Ernest Reed, a reggae musician who is short of money, and the two turn Ernest's rundown resort into Club Paradise, advertised as a Club Med-style place with a brochure showing Jack in a different disguise on every page. The pitch brings a few American guests, including Barry Nye and Barry Steinberg, who are after marijuana and women, and the travel writer Terry Hamlin. Linda White vacations with her husband Randy. Voit Zerbe, a developer, wants the beachfront for a casino, and has the prime minister, Solomon Gundy, on his side.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Club Paradise (1986)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Bill Murray turned down the lead role of Jack Moniker, which went to Robin Williams instead, while John Cleese was originally set to co-star before dropping out and being replaced by Peter O'Toole; Murray's brother Brian Doyle-Murray ended up in the cast anyway.
- "Ed Roboto," credited as a writer, was really a pseudonym for Harry Shearer, who was brought in with Tom Leopold for an uncredited rewrite; only two words of what they wrote made it into the finished film (the title itself), and Shearer was so appalled by the result that he had his real name taken off the credits.
- The film turned out to be the final movie of actor Adolph Caesar, who died in March 1986, four months before it reached theaters.
