Joel was born in London in 1984 and studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Upon leaving he got a job but it was as a cheese-monger for the Neal's Yard group and his honesty regarding the wares meant that he did not last long. His early stage roles were in dramatic parts , Benvolio in 'Romeo and Juliet' for the Lost Theatre Company and the title in the Young Vic's 'Doctor Faustus' as well as Heathcliff in the Grand Theatre York's production of 'Wuthering Heights'. Joel made his television debut in 2006 in police series 'The Bill', returning three years later to play a different character but in television terms he has become something of the go-to actor for cheery, gormless side-kicks as in the Roman set sitcom 'Plebs', as inept mate to hapless handy-man Will Mellor in 'White Van Man' and the best friend and eventual father-in-law to Mathew Baynton in 'You, Me and the Apocalypse.
