Plot summary
In a Welsh valley town, Herb is about to have his benefits cut and lives alone in a cramped basement flat. His marriage is over and he has no contact with his young son, and a neighbor plays loud music at all hours. After he is mugged, he sees a television report about Danish prisons, where inmates have regular activity, ready healthcare and hotel-style bedrooms with televisions and en suite bathrooms. He decides to travel to Denmark and rob a bank so that he will be arrested and imprisoned there. He stows away aboard a cargo ship and comes ashore in a Danish port town.
