Jimmy Smits
Biography
Jimmy Smits is an American actor known for playing lawyers, detectives, and the Star Wars senator Bail Organa. Born in Brooklyn, he had an early part on Miami Vice in 1984 and then spent five seasons as Victor Sifuentes on L.A. Law, a role that brought him an Emmy in 1990. His film debut came in Running Scared (1986), and he went on to appear in Old Gringo (1989), Switch (1991), and My Family (1995). He starred as Detective Bobby Simone on NYPD Blue from 1994 to 1998, earning Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe. He played Bail Organa in Attack of the Clones (2002), Revenge of the Sith (2005), and Rogue One (2016), and later took the role of Matt Santos on The West Wing and Miguel Prado on Dexter, winning a Saturn Award. In the Heights (2021) followed.
