Plot summary

The Clone Wars have run for three years, and the Jedi Knights lead a clone army against the Separatists. When General Grievous abducts Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker board the commander's flagship to free him, and Anakin duels the Sith Lord Count Dooku. Grievous slips away before their damaged ship crashes on Coruscant, where Anakin finds his wife Padmé Amidala pregnant. Visions of Padmé dying in childbirth haunt him. Palpatine gives Anakin a seat on the Jedi Council as his personal representative; the Council accepts him but withholds the rank of Master and orders him to watch the Chancellor, while Palpatine tells Anakin that the dark side holds power over death.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • It was originally intended to put a "tall guy" in the Darth Vader costume, but after what he called begging and pleading, Christensen persuaded Lucas to have the Vader costume used in the film created specifically to fit him.
  • Gary Oldman was approached to voice General Grievous in 2004 but dropped out rather than break union rules, having learned the film was being made outside the Screen Actors Guild. Matthew Wood, who voiced Grievous, disputed that, saying Oldman recorded an audition as a favour to his friend, producer Rick McCallum, and was not chosen.
  • A copy leaked onto peer-to-peer file sharing networks just hours after the film opened in theaters, and it was a time-stamped workprint. Eight people were later charged, and prosecutors alleged the copy had been taken from a Californian post-production office by an employee who pleaded guilty.
  • The film holds a world record with 2,151 shots using special effects, and the miniature of Mustafar measured 33 ft long, 18 ft wide and 7 ft high, the largest scale model ever built for any film at the time.
  • The Mustafar duel alone took 910 artists and 70,441 man-hours of work to produce just 49 seconds of finished footage.
  • Lucas asked Hayden Christensen to bulk up and show the maturity that had passed between the two films, so he worked out with a trainer in Sydney for three months and ate six meals a day on every protein and weight gain supplement going, taking him from 160 lb to 185 lb.
  • Christopher Lee had to film all of his scenes in just two days, because he was due for his scheduled pick-up shots on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
