Plot summary
Izzy Goldkiss is found dead on the ground outside the Million Dollar Hotel, a rundown building in Los Angeles that houses people with mental illness and no money for care. Agent Skinner of the FBI arrives to investigate, suspecting murder. Izzy's father, a wealthy media mogul, wants the inquiry handled without publicity. The hotel's residents include Geronimo, who calls himself a Native American artist; Dixie, who insists he is a Beatle owed royalties; and Eloise, who works as a part-time prostitute. Tom-Tom, an introverted skater who knew Izzy and loves Eloise, watches Skinner work. Geronimo's canvases, painted in black tar, are mistaken for the dead man's art, and the residents see a way to sell them.
