Plot summary
One night a boat comes to Snape Island through heavy fog. Two seamen go ashore and find a man's corpse and a severed hand; inside the lighthouse they find a woman's severed head and another body. They also find Penny, a young woman hiding in a closet. The boat's captain survives. Doctors later examine Penny, who is in deep shock, and she starts to remember how she and her friends came to the island. A team of scientists, five men and two women, then sails to Snape Island on the Sea Ghost, captained by the surviving seaman, because the island holds gold and Phoenician treasures. Dr. Simpson leads the group. After landing, they find no sea gulls and little other life on the island.
