Plot summary
Howard R. Chesser deals in diamonds on a small scale in England. The chance to take charge of buying a very large diamond and having it cut comes to him unexpectedly; the stone is to be named after the wealthy man who owns it. Then it is stolen from him, and he is blackmailed into carrying out a robbery at The System, the diamond exchange at 11 Harrowhouse Street in the City of London. His wealthy girlfriend is in on the plan. The exchange is heavily guarded, with alarms and other security meant to keep intruders out, and the robbery has to get around all of it.

- On the manor set where the film was shooting, a maid confronted Charles Grodin and told him it would be soo nice if he weren't there; years later he named his 1989 book It Would Be Soo Nice If You Weren't Here: My Journey Through Show Business.
- Editor Anne Coates said director Aram Avakian, himself a former top editor, was totally disorganised, which made the film hard to cut.
- Coates also said Charles Grodin was very difficult to handle and did not get along with co-star Candice Bergen, causing problems; she felt the first script was much better than the ten written afterwards.
