Plot summary
Temptations Limited sells antiques, and its Proprietor promises offers no one can resist. Edward Charlton pays a knockdown price for a mirror, sure he has fooled the Proprietor into taking it for a reproduction, and when friends say it belongs in a ghost story he holds a seance at home. Christopher Lowe, an office manager bullied by his wife, tells the pedlar Jim Underwood he was a decorated soldier and sets his eye on a Distinguished Service Order medal the Proprietor refuses to sell without proof. Reggie Warren switches a price tag to pay less for a snuffbox, and the clairvoyant Madame Orloff warns him on the train that an elemental has settled on his shoulder. William Seaton buys an ornate door at a reduced price and fits it to a cupboard.
