Hiro Kanagawa
Biography
Hiro Kanagawa is a Canadian actor and playwright who lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was born in Sapporo, Japan, and spent his childhood across Guelph, Ontario, Sterling Heights, Michigan and Tokyo, later earning an MFA from Simon Fraser University in 1994. He has worked largely in Vancouver-shot film and television, playing Principal Kwan on Smallville and the Yakuza boss Tashi on The Man in the High Castle from 2015 to 2016. He appeared as three separate characters on The X-Files and has acted in series such as Caprica, Altered Carbon, iZombie and Kim's Convenience. In voice work he gave Gihren Zabi his first English-language voice in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, and in Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes he voiced Mister Fantastic. He wrote for Da Vinci's City Hall, and his play Indian Arm earned a 2015 Jessie Richardson Theatre Award and the 2017 Governor General's Literary Award for drama. He is a four-time Leo Award nominee.
