Plot summary
To force her wealthy father to notice her, Emily Hope stages her own kidnapping. Speaking through a device that disguises her voice, she tells him to leave a million dollars on a barge passing beneath the bridge where he stands, and she names her own car, a BMW parked in a nearby garage, as the place where the hostage can be found. Then she binds her ankles and her mouth with tape and climbs into the trunk. Before the police reach the car, Vincent Roche, a professional car thief, drives it away without any idea that she is hidden inside. The officers chase him as the kidnapper; Alexander, due in Brussels in two days, asks Emily's uncle Ray to track her down.
