Plot summary
Lamont Cranston, who also goes by the name The Shadow, steps in to stop a robbery at the office of Chester Randall, an attorney. Police arrive to search the rooms, and Cranston has to pose as Randall to get out. A call then takes him to the house of Caleb Delthern, a rich client who has asked for a new will. Delthern's heirs are his niece Marcia Delthern and three nephews, Winstead Comstock, Jasper Delthern and Humphrey Comstock. Delthern says his niece Marcia is to be disinherited if she marries a man named Warran. During the meeting Delthern is shot, and Cranston is drawn into the questions that follow about the estate.
