Plot summary
Joe Keller built a manufacturing business and once ran it with his partner Herbert Deever. The two men were charged over defective airplane parts that led to wartime crashes and deaths, and Herbert alone was convicted and sent to prison. Joe's son Chris plans to marry Herbert's daughter Ann and move to Chicago, while Joe had hoped to hand Chris the business. Kate Keller, Chris's mother, has not accepted that her son Larry, missing in action and presumed dead, is gone; Ann was once engaged to Larry. Ann's brother George, an attorney, objects to the marriage, and many in town still blame Joe for the pilots who died.
