Biography
Edward Fox is an English actor, born in Chelsea, London, into a theatrical family, who built his career from stage work in the 1960s, including a turn as Hamlet, into major British films. He won the BAFTA award for best supporting actor in a film twice, for The Go-Between (1971) and A Bridge Too Far (1977), and took the BAFTA television award for best actor as Edward VIII in Edward & Mrs. Simpson (1978). He is known for starring in The Day of the Jackal (1973) as a professional assassin, and appeared in Oh! What a Lovely War (1969), Battle of Britain (1969), Force 10 from Navarone (1978), Gandhi (1982), The Bounty (1984), Never Say Never Again (1983), The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) and Stage Beauty (2004). Stage work in London's West End has also featured throughout his career, and he received the Order of the British Empire for services to drama in 2003.
