Plot summary
Michael Tremayne, the son his family counts as the bad one, is forced to resign from the army. The brothers would rather succeed by cleverness than drudgery, and decide a large amount of publicity would help their careers. David takes his new girlfriend Inge on a tour of London that includes the Tower of London. At a dinner party they learn that no one can be charged with theft unless he intends to keep the owner's property. David proposes taking the Crown Jewels and sending letters beforehand to show they will be returned.
