Biography

Édgar Ramírez is a Venezuelan actor who moved into performing after studying communications in Caracas and working in media, encouraged when the director Guillermo Arriaga admired one of his short films. He first drew notice in the soap opera Cosita rica, and his big-screen debut came as Choco in Tony Scott's Domino (2005). His later film work included a Blackbriar assassin in The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), a CIA operative in Zero Dark Thirty (2012), the boxer Roberto Durán in Hands of Stone (2016), Ares in Wrath of the Titans (2012) and Bodhi in the Point Break remake (2015). Playing Carlos the Jackal in the 2010 miniseries Carlos brought him a César Award for Most Promising Actor plus Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, and he later took the role of Gianni Versace in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. He also appeared in the miniseries The Undoing and sat on the Cannes Un Certain Regard jury in 2022.
