Plot summary
In a version of Los Angeles where humans share the streets with orcs and elves, magic is real and illegal, and only rare individuals called Brights can hold a wand without dying. Veteran officer Daryl Ward is paired against his wishes with Nick Jakoby, the first orc on the police force, resented by human colleagues for his species and by orcs for his badge. Internal Affairs still questions how Jakoby lost an orc robber who shot Ward. Called to a safe house of the Shield of Light, a group that prophesies the Dark Lord's return, they find a single survivor: Tikka, an elf girl holding a wand. The officers who answer Ward's call for backup see the wand and want it.

- Netflix scrapped its planned sequel to Bright in April 2022, after Will Smith's altercation with Chris Rock at the Academy Awards. Louis Leterrier had been in talks to direct it.
- Netflix picked up Bright for a $90 million deal, with filming beginning in fall 2016, making it the most expensive Netflix film to date at the time.
- Netflix announced that Bright was viewed more times in its first week than any of the company's other releases, a record for the streaming service at that point.
