Eddie Quillan

Biography

Eddie Quillan was an American actor and singer who started out on vaudeville stages as a child and worked in film and television for more than six decades. Born in Philadelphia in 1907 into a family of vaudeville performers, he made his stage debut at seven in his parents' act. Mack Sennett signed him in 1922, and he spent the rest of the decade in comedy shorts before his first feature, Show Folks, and a dramatic breakout in Cecil B. DeMille's The Godless Girl, which led to a Pathe contract. He became a steady leading and supporting player in sound films, among them Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940) as Connie Rivers, Alaska Highway (1943) and the musical Brigadoon (1954). From the late 1950s he moved into television, with guest roles and regular parts on Valentine's Day and Julia. He died in 1990.
