Plot summary
Nash Crawford, a retired Texas Ranger sergeant, saves his old partner Gentleman George from a gunfight in a saloon by letting a stranger believe George is Wyatt Earp. George and Nash carry a telegram signed only Friend, calling them to Waco because the Baltimore Kid is in trouble. They pull Jason Fitch away from the eve of his wedding to Louise Murphy with the old Ranger shout of Brazos. In Waco they find that Friend is Amos Polk, an outlaw turned newspaperman, who takes them to a crude grave he says holds the Kid, shot in a robbery at the Wells Fargo office and then lynched.
