Daniel von Bargen
Biography
Daniel von Bargen was an American character actor who worked across television, film and theater. A Cincinnati native, he spent much of his childhood there before his family moved to Southern California. His television debut came in 1974 with Feasting with Panthers, a play about Oscar Wilde shown on PBS's Great Performances. He later played George Costanza's boss, Mr. Kruger, during the ninth season of Seinfeld, and the eye-patched Commandant Edwin Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle. On film he played Nix, the sorcerer in Clive Barker's Lord of Illusions, the Sheriff in The Postman, and Chief Grady in Super Troopers. His other screen credits included Basic Instinct and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. He had a long residency with Trinity Repertory Company, made his Off-Broadway debut in 1981 with Missing Persons, and won a 1990 Theatre World Award for Mastergate, which also brought his Broadway debut. He also narrated the unabridged audiobook of Streets of Laredo in 1993.

Behind the award
Von Bargen acted in the debut of Larry Gelbart's Mastergate at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1990, his part in Mastergate won him a Theatre World Award for Outstanding New Performer.
