Plot summary
Casey Connor shoots pictures for the student paper at Herrington High in Ohio, where Delilah Profitt serves as editor. Stan Rosado, her boyfriend, is considering leaving the football team for academics. Zeke Tyler, repeating his senior year, sells a powdered drug concealed inside ballpoint pens. Marybeth Louise Hutchinson, a new transfer student, befriends Stokely Mitchell. On the football field Casey comes across an unfamiliar creature and brings it to Mr. Furlong, his science teacher, who believes it to be a parasite. From the teachers' lounge, Casey and Delilah watch Coach Willis and Mrs. Olson press one of these parasites into the school nurse's ear. Casey's call to the police leads nowhere, so he tells Delilah, Stan and Stokely that the faculty is under alien control.

- Kidada Jones played an added character, Venus, whose scenes appeared in TV previews and Tommy Hilfiger promotional commercials for The Faculty but were cut from the finished film; she can still be seen standing beside Usher's Gabe in the science class.
- David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel wrote the first draft of The Faculty's script in 1990 and sent it out, but it found no buyers; Miramax only bought it after Scream (1996) became a success, rushing it into production.
- Director Ryan Coogler named The Faculty as one of the inspirations for his 2025 film Sinners, praising how Robert Rodriguez mashed up Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Thing in a 1990s high school setting.
