Connie Gilchrist
Biography
Connie Gilchrist was an American actress of stage, film and television. Born in Brooklyn, she attended Assumption Academy and first appeared on stage in London in 1917, at the age of 22. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer signed her to a ten-year contract in 1939, and her Hollywood films included A Letter to Three Wives (1949), Little Women (1949), Houdini (1953) and Some Came Running (1958). She played Purity Pinker in Long John Silver (1954) and returned to the part in the spin-off television series, which also brought Robert Newton back. Her best-known role was Norah Muldoon in Auntie Mame (1958). On Broadway she appeared in Ladies and Gentlemen, Work Is for Horses, Excursion and Mulato, and she also worked on television programs such as General Electric Theater. She died in 1985.
