Plot summary
Football rules the campus at Tait College in 1927, and star player Tommy Marlowe is the prize the college girls want. Tommy tells his friend Bobby Turner, a teammate who does not play, that showing no interest is the way to attract women. At a sorority party, new student Pat McClellan cuts him down and looks instead toward wealthy Peter Van Dyne III. When Pat insults Tommy in French, he asks Connie Lane, a part-time school librarian, to help him learn the language. Babe Doolittle, Connie's roommate, wants to leave the jealous football player Beef for Bobby, who is drawn to her but afraid of him.
