Plot summary
Stan and Oliver descend from an illustrious line of butlers and chefs, and in 1932 they have no work. Their search for jobs abroad gets them nowhere, so they return to the United States in 1944, where employers in desperate need of domestic help besiege them. Elvira Hawkley, a social climber, engages them to cook and serve at a grand formal dinner in honor of the exiled King Christopher of Orlandia. Christopher's uncle, Prince Saul, fears that the boy's democratic ideas will cost him his own chance at the throne. Asked to fetch steak, they come back with horsemeat taken from a zoo.

- Nothing but Trouble was finished in August 1944 but sat on the shelf for seven months, because MGM was pushing all of its military-themed productions into release ahead of it.
- The trailer for Nothing but Trouble uses alternate takes that were never in the finished film, including a different take of Stan dancing at the end and a different take at the zoo, because trailers preferred original first-generation footage over copies struck from the completed feature.
