Bill Paterson
Biography
Bill Paterson is a Scottish actor whose career has moved between theater, radio, television, and film. Born in Glasgow in 1945 and raised in Dennistoun, he began professionally in 1967 at the Glasgow Citizens Theatre and was a founding member of the touring company 7:84. His early film work includes The Killing Fields (1984), Comfort and Joy (1984), and A Private Function (1984), while a Brecht performance at the National Theatre brought him an Olivier Award nomination in 1982. On television he became known through Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, The Singing Detective, and Sea of Souls, and his films include The Witches (1990), Truly Madly Deeply (1990), Chaplin (1992), Richard III (1995), Miss Potter (2006), and Amazing Grace (2006). Later he appeared in Doctor Who, Outlander, Fleabag, and House of the Dragon, narrated documentaries and The Repair Shop, and in 2015 received a Scottish BAFTA lifetime achievement award.
