The Match (1999) on Netflix

Plot summary

In the village of Inverdoune, sides representing its two pubs, Benny's Bar and Le Bistro, meet each year for a football match. The bet that began the fixture has run for 99 years, and its terms say the loser of the hundredth game hands over its bar. Benny's Bar has lost every one of them, and Le Bistro's owner, George Gus, intends to demolish it. Wullie Smith comes home from university, lodging with the Baileys, and his feelings for Rosemary Bailey revive as she prepares to leave for a career in the city. Wullie's Total Football Recall, a store of tactics and statistics, would make him the right manager for the Benny's Bar team, but the childhood death of his brother holds him back. A former professional living in the village also turns down requests to play.
