Biography

Kerry Fox is a New Zealand actress who trained at Toi Whakaari, New Zealand's drama school, graduating in 1987. Born in Lower Hutt, Wellington, she first drew attention as Janet Frame in Jane Campion's An Angel at My Table (1990), winning a best actress award at the New Zealand Film and Television Awards. She has worked internationally in independent film and television. She starred in Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave (1994) and took the Silver Bear as best actress at the Berlin Film Festival for Patrice Chéreau's Intimacy (2001). She was nominated for an Australian Film Institute Award for Country Life and a Canadian Genie Award for The Hanging Garden. On stage she appeared in a 2009 production of Andrew Bovell's Speaking in Tongues. In 2011 she appeared as Oriel Lamb in a television version of Tim Winton's Cloudstreet and later as Frankie, a criminal matriarch, in the ABC series Bay of Fires across two seasons from 2023 to 2025.
