Biography
Anika Noni Rose is an American actress whose career began in theater before she became known for voice and screen work. Born in Bloomfield, Connecticut, she studied theater at Florida A&M University and the American Conservatory Theater. Her Broadway breakout came as Emmie Thibodeaux in Caroline, or Change, a role that brought her a Tony Award as best featured actress in a musical. She went on to play Lorrell Robinson in Dreamgirls (2006), which earned her a Grammy nomination for her contribution to the soundtrack, and appeared in From Justin to Kelly (2003). Her most prominent role is as the voice of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog (2009), and Disney named her a Disney Legend in 2011. Other credits include For Colored Girls (2010), Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020), Once Upon a Studio (2023), and Mufasa: The Lion King (2024). She returned to Broadway in A Raisin in the Sun, earning a Tony nomination.
