Plot summary
To follow Lady Victoria Wingate to England, Nick Di Angelo saves what he earns in a Las Vegas casino. He believes his way to win her is to enter Oxford University and join the rowing team there. After a night with an older woman he has enough money for the trip and drives to Oxford in a 1955 Ford Thunderbird that promptly wedges between two walls on a narrow street. Oriel College takes him in. The rowing team's coxswain, Rona, is another American. Nick finds Lady Victoria, and finds that she is deeply involved with Colin Gilchrist Fisher, a rower at Christ Church.
