Plot summary
Roary, partially crippled after a suicide attempt, lives in a rundown house in Oakland and spends most of his time at a neighborhood bar. Many of the regulars there are disabled, and he grows closest to Jerry Maxwell, the bartender, who walks with a bad leg. Jerry still plays basketball, and a narrow loss in a scrimmage against Alvin Martin of the Golden State Warriors earns him the team's notice, which the bar's regulars hope will lift their own spirits. When Max, the bar's owner, suffers a heart attack, Louise is taken on as a new waitress. Roary is drawn to her.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Inside Moves (1980)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Richard Donner agreed to direct Inside Moves only to take his mind off being fired and replaced from Superman II, calling it "the smallest film I could do" and one he found very near and dear at that point.
- Director Richard Donner often confused his Hungarian cinematographer László Kovács with fellow cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, so when Zsigmond visited the set he had T-shirts printed reading "MY NAME IS NOT LÁSZLÓ" and "MY NAME IS NOT VILMOS"; the two then swapped shirts.
- Inside Moves marked the return to the screen of disabled veteran Harold Russell, 34 years after his Academy Award-winning role in The Best Years of Our Lives.
